Buying a major

Hi all,
I am looking to buy a fordson. I have just joined the FFA so I can ask questions and hopefully learn more about Fordsons. I may have the opportunity to buy 1 or 2 majors from a farm down the road.
I have a few basic questions for you guys.
1. How can I tell what model and date of manufacture,
2. The farmer has no paperwork, can I still get the tractor registered, so it is road legal.
3. What would be a ball park figure for a tractor,in average condition for a 50 year old.
Any tips, questions to ask, when going to look, buy.
