Fordson standard vaporiser & throttle spring

Post by Roadless63 »

Hi, I'm fairly new to the earlier fordsons and have recently started tinkering with a circa 1942 standard n petrol/tvo machine. I had the vaporiser plate off which was quite Carboned up, comparing it with a spare I noticed this one has not got what I assume is a brass jet fitted at the bottom whereas the spare does. The tractor seems to run fine on petrol and tvo but I'm wondering if it should have this brass jet fitted? Also on the same machine there is a circular spring fitted on the end of the shaft running to the throttle butterfly. Neither end of the spring is connected, I assume it should be there to assist closing the throttle. Does anyone have a picture of one fitted correctly before I invent a suitable arrangement. Again it seems to run OK as.

anyone got any thoughts on this? I have found out that there are a couple of types of "jet" depending on the age of the tractor, is there a way of telling which should be fitted (mine is circa 1942)
