E27N serial number.

Morning Gents,
I am trying to help a pal with his E27N;
He was looking for the serial number, and it isn't on a plate on the firewall. There Is a number stamped (not cast) on the engine block where it joins the bell housing.
This number is 1178994.
Does this sound right for a serial number? On the adjoining bell housing, is stamped T D 43. Is T D the year and month? (as in, 1952 and April?) Can anyone tell me about the "43"?
Thanks for your help. The tractor has stood for 20 years and slobbers oil from one cylinder. We agreed before pulling it down, to give it some lugging work to get it warmed up well, and see if it cleared as the rings freed off. Does this sound right to you? No clinking sounds of broken rings or anything.
Thanks in advance, and hope it's warmer back home!
Minus 27C here at present.
Richard.
