Fordson Standard N

Post by Nick5742 »

Can anyone recommend the best tvo mix for my recently acquired 1942 Fordson Standard N and advise whether I can use unleaded petrol without any additive ??

Thanks very much

Hi,

For TVO I just buy heating kerosene and add up to 1/4 to 1/3rd of petrol. No issues so far.

Unleaded shouldn't be a problem. Prewar petrol didn't contain lead, tvo didn't contain lead. And low reving engines with relative weak valve springs don't wear that much on the seats.

My industrial standard with an E27N engine ran hot on the 28 sec / petrol mix so I used to add a pint of red diesel to a tankful, not much difference to heating oil but it ran cooler and smelled more like TVO :)
