Fordson's don't leak oil, they are just marking their territory.

Thanks Pascal. Quite pleased with the outcome so far.
Looks great - an inspiration

And you fixed the timing cover seal too. Talk about 'requirements creep' !!

Thanks Ben. Just wish it would stop raining so as I can crack on and get it finished.

By the way, what is the rod that runs along the bottom of the engine by the side frame? Is it a strengthening rod?

Huzey, how many coats of paint did you apply on top of the red oxide on the main body?

Hi Ross
I put about 3 coats of blue on, plus the odd bit of touching up with a brush on the hard to reach bits.
Still got a few little bits to do, but have just taken delivery of my next project, which unfortunately, isn't blue!

Ok Ross, it is a david brown 996 with a power loader from 1978. Needs a bit of loving as it came from a dairy farm I reckon, but will be put to good use on my little veg growing project and will save the major which is now going to be semi retired. (unless of course the 996 doesn't meet the mark and then that will move on to make way for a 4600 or similar)

Hi Chris
I got the tyres from a chap I used to work for, and I paid £380 for all four. Plus I sold all four of the old ones to go on a Nuffield so got a bit back on them.
Hope this helps.

Good luck with the 996, great tractors browns. I used to drive a 1210 on and off until the engine gave up the ghost. I remember the steering was always very vague and had to be topped up daily with oil, it used to wander badly on the road aswell which made life interesting.

I once traded a whole fleet of David Browns because of the steering.

Working in a veg growing area with a lot of inter row cultivation, the steering wheel was having to be turned up to 30 timeswhen crossing the field, just to keep it straight. Was quite a problem with the early hydrostatic steering systems.

Hi Dave
The loader will go back on eventualy. Got to get a ram resealed and give the boom a coat of paint, or might even look for another boom as mine is a little bent and been welded, but is still good and strong.

Think you can just see the bend and the weld in this piccy.

Shouldn't put this piccy on but here is the latest project.

Not planning to, just get her up together electrics wise and get the door stuck back on, oh and stop the cab roof from leaking! Mechanicaly she is sound, just needs a bit of time to get all the guages and lights working.

Huzey , please don't paint the David Brown blue, it will give Fordsons a bad reputation! They could leak more oil than the a super tanker.Make sure the 4 bolts that hold the front axle together are tight.Plus those clutchs on DB's don't like being slipped.Cheers TSG.

Huzey, When I was doing my appenticeship, among other things, I worked on 90 series David Browns and 94 series Cases. While some of there ideas have merit( and others didn't) and they were well built, they lack the simplicity and reliailty that you get with a Ford/Fordson.If only they had put more time and /or money into R&D in the 70's and 80's.By the time the 94 series came out they should have moved on to something a bit more advanced rather than a repainted 90 series. How dealers sold them I don't know.( I still dislike 1394's)When Case and International merged, that was the end of the line for the David Brown derived tractors. Its just that I would rather use a Ford/Fordson than a David Brown, but I would rather use a David Brown than some "other" tractor brands. TSG.
