Hello from new member

Post by swedishandgerman »

Hi

Would like to introduce myself and my tractor, a Super Power Major that was my wife's grandfather's

I can't remember the year, but it's very original and I need to collect the loader and a link box that are still sitting in his barn under some overgrown brambles. All the lilghts work!

Need to sort out the crankcase breather which is missing something and spewing oil all over the place

It gets used a bit on my parent's farm, but not much. More of a toy!

Welcome to the forum. You’ll get excellent advice on your Major here and yours looks like it’s got some potential… :)

…and maybe a bit of fashion advice… It’s November up here in North Lincs, are you having a heat wave in Exeter?

Welcome Aboard Matey. :D The old Super looks like a good one. Post the serial number and the fellows on here will give you the year, and the month in many cases. The serial number is stamped on the right hand side of the engine block toward the front where the head and block meet. Look in the area of number one, and number two injector. Dandy Dave!
Have a Fordsonful day Folks!

Looks like a very nice Super. Great shape. Clean her, fix her and you will have a great friend.
Kind regards, Henk

Dandy Dave’s right, you should find the number right where he said under No. 1 injector, but if not have a look around the starter motor on the flange with the gear box I believe. Fordson used the engine number as the serial number as well, so your engine number should match the number on the firewall, I’ve marked the location on your picture below.

If the numbers are not the same (as was the case with my Major) then you need to use the number marked in the picture for dating you tractor.

Another way of dating your tractor is to look at all the castings marks, these consist of a letter, number and letter something like B 14 A. These refer to the month, day and year (See picture below from under my seat)
