holy smoke

Post by meusy351 »

brian(grumpy)thanks for your help.
i reset the valve clearances, changed engne oil and took the tractor for a drive it was smokey mainly white a little black and lots of it!but saying that when i put the tractor under load with a 6ft slasher in the long grass at around 1400-1500 revs it burned a clean exhaust!the oil pressure sits around 36-40 psi and water temp sits at 85-90 degrees.so for my first head gasket job on a fordson im pretty happy with that.this old girl sat in a paddock for 5-7 years so im geussing just keep woking her hard might be the answer?would excessive smoking do any damage proir to loading the tractor up?it had deiesel konocks in #2and #4 but i got rid of those with injection timming tinkering.im going to fit a new deisel filter and bleed the whole system again hoping that might cut back the white smoke at start up a bit.my wife reckons my new found love for this tractor has made her happy because i dont buy penthouse or picture mags any more, and that i come home with farm machinery and tractor mags!my fordson has allowed me to have a beer and tinker with her and look at other tractors all while making the wife happy

Keep up the work on the slasher and she will clear the smoke as long as your pump is timed correctly. Have fun!
