Live drive or not live drive

Post by am333rcr »

Hello all

I am new to both the forum and fordsons. I have grown up on u farm so i know stuff about tractors and engineer by trade. so wont to attempt my first one and go for a conversion at the sametime. Good idea or bad idea? We will find out.

Thinking about a straight six or v8 . My question is how do I tell from the outside if the fordson is a live drive or not? Is there a way to easily spot this. It is a non live drive I am looking for.

Thanks for any help

Regards alistair

A tractor with a Live PTO should have the "Live Drive" emblem on the grill. However, the definitive identification will be the presence of the engagement lever on the left side of the tractor just below the starter lever:

Whirly,

You are right about the emblem.
Sorry but the non live drive has the same lever. It's to engage the pto stub with the gearbox.

If there is a bracing under the clutch pedal like on the next picture it's a non live drive.

The bracing of the live drive is from flat steel, smaller, but longer and has two holes in it were you can put a pin in so the clutch pedal goes that deep that it will stop the tractor but not the pto.
Sorry have no picture.
Kind regards, Henk

Check your high/low range lever. If it goes in high with lever up then it has live drive. Non live drive will have the low range with lever up.
