Been abit busy lately so havent been able todo much work on her. I had my mate make me some locking tabs for the crank in the end and they came out real well also there stainless steel so should be stronger??
It might also be a good idea to check for ridges on the top of the cylinders. Top compression rings have a habit of shattering when meeting them.
By the way -- are 'ridge dodger' rings still available for these engines? I know they are for cars.

Having stripped your engine down to this level I would highly recommend replacing the liners. New rings on their own doesn't really make sense after all the hard work you've put in to get this far.
the engine had been rebuild and recived new liners around 8 years ago ( as well as some welding too the block i just discovered ) and did very little work after (was parked up in garden for 5 years) but the person who did it did a poor job and it was never right, wouldnt start, lots of smoke ect. the crack was in a bad way too hence the rebuild.. and the farmer who owned it previously never new oil changes existed lol
