Major timing

Major timing

Ive managed to free off the coupling on my fuel pump to adjust the timing slightly, as the engine is a bit temperamental to start from cold, and it smokes a bit too much for a new engine - diesel smoke.

How much should it be adjusted, is it minute movements? Ive moved it one way about 10mm and it wouldnt start at all.

For those that dont know, the reason im doing it this way is because it has an early sump with no timing hole, and a late engine with out the pointer, so god help me if ive got to remove the pump at any time lol!

Just a rough guess, without doing any measuring, but I'd say that 10mm on the coupler is about 20 degrees of crankshaft rotation.

Yes that thought did occur to me after i posted this first post, a tiny adjustment on the coupling is going to be alot more on the flywheel, so im going to have to move it tiny tiny movements until it fires right

hi nick
you can determin the point of injecktion this way,
remove the the pipe for NO1 cyl injecktion,blow away any diesel in the "cup" where injector pipe screws onto injector pumpe,now with engine stopped make sure engine stop knob is not pulled out and apply full throttle.
Have an assistent turn the crankshaft slowly in direction of rotation while you watch the "cup" ,the instant fuel bubbels in "cup" shout stop! Point of injection can now be read in the pointer hole in clutch housing. and ajusted if nessary.sven.
