I sure there are plenty out there worthy of your attention! But it's hard to make any money out of doing up old tractors. Definitely for love not moneyAdrianNPMajor wrote:My tractor doesn't look like this anymore but part of me wishes it did! I need a project and would love to rip a Major apart again. Does anyone else have this feeling?

At least I can look back at a ploughed field and pat the old girl who's now fighting fit again.

Yes. And in comparisan, red parts are not all that cheep either. And some are just as hard to get.Bensdexta wrote:I hate to say it but I suspect there is more to be made restoring red ones
35's & 135's seem to go for better money, never sure why. Perhaps it's just the colour!
 Dandy Dave!
Dandy Dave!Hi AdrianAdrianNPMajor wrote:Drove a MF 35 as a student but wasn't into mechanic then, so have no real memories of its performance. If I'm allowed to ask in this forum (!), are the red tractors as bullet-proof (make that bomb-proof) as a Major?

. I would say that from my experience both tractors have weathered there ages well
. I would say that from my experience both tractors have weathered there ages well . I have worked on both and it don't matter what it is a guy beats the snot out of, It will break motors and transmissions and wear out/ fall apart at high hours or low hours with no maintanence. A major transmission is good for 1200 hp In tractor pulling applications, but not sure a Ferguson 35 rear would take that much If you wanted to compare to that extreme

I would guess 150 hp Perkins turbo diesel would probably push the Fergie pretty hard and to the point of no return

Yes, prob MF65 would be the direct comparison. But I think the Major out sold the 65 several times over - it was never that popular.sky blue wrote:dont know a lot about fergs but surly the 35 is equiv to dexta power wise and it would be the
165 that would be nearer to fordson major lb/lb .
