diesel return line

Think my diesel return line has a small leak.
Would it be all right to test it on the engine with blowing some low pressure air from a compressor in it from the tank side? Or could this damage the injectors.

Easier to take the return pipe off the injectors and out of the head joint then low pressure it. No problem with harming the injectors but just far easier when it is out of the tractor. The usual place it leaks is around the brass banjos to the injectors, the solder seems to get tierd after a time.

We used to blow down the end and block off the banjos with our fingers! Strangely none of us mechanics could play the flute! :scratchhead:

My return line has a short tube between the end and the tank. I can blow air from that point just to check it.

I had a small leak on mine some time ago and used an electric tyre pump to pressurise it. Glad I did it in situ as the leak was where the banjo meets the injector.

Found two leaks. One is a bad solder and the other one is the connection to the block. Hope to get a replacement part for that tomorrow.
I suspected diesel in the engine oil and was right after all. Have to put some new oil in it.
