Hi all been a while since ive posted on here been abit tied up as of late. I have finally got around to getting the engine back in my old girl. Ive ordered up a new clutch, pressure plate and thrust bearing ready to reassemble.
Im sure this topic has come up before but i couldnt find anything on my eyes getting heavey going through all the posts!
All i wanted to know is how i should be setting it up, like the little ajuster screws on the pressure plate and getting the right travel ect, and any tips and tricks of getting it together would also be dandy
You do not need to alter anything on the pressure plate as this will all be set by in manufacture. All you have to adjust is the rod from the clutch to give between 3/4" and 1" (19 to 25mm) of free play measured at the clutch pedal. This will need checking and re-adjusting after a few hours work as the clutch beds in.
Saying that however, if your pressure plate comes from "the land of nearly right" and is of their usual "High Quality", once the clutch is bolted to the flywheel, just make sure the release finger adjusters are all the same height and will engage the thrust bearing equally.
Push and wriggle the two halves back together, put the tractor into gear and slowly turn the engine over as you do. Long bolts may be used to just hold the two halves together as you do this but on no account try and pull the tractor together with them. Also check that the two halves are level top and bottom and that the gap is equal all round as you push together.
If you are really lucky she may go straight up to the dowels at your first attempt.
