Hey chaps!
I'm nearly putting new liners in the block. Just got a few other thing to do. But I remember on here a few weeks back, someone said about liner sealant, at the top of the line where it seals to the top of the block.
What sealant should be used if I need any (cant really remember what the post said).
Thanks
New Liners!
Re: New Liners!
Later 1963 Super Majors had an extra "O" ring and seal area at the top of the liner, up to that time there were no seals in the block and no sealer is required. Check your block and liners, a number of suppliers send out the later liners which are slightly greater diameter and do not fit in the earlier block. Without seals the liners should drop into position easily for you to measure the protrusion (0.002" to 0.004") then when you fit the seals, should slide into position with a little soft soap on the bottom with little pressure.
If they are very tight and you have to force them into position you have the wrong liner.

Re: New Liners!
oh right, yeah its the early liners.
So they just drop in, then add the o ring at the bottom?
Is it worth freezing the liners or is it not necessary?
thanks

Re: New Liners!
You put the liners in without the "O" ring to measure the protrusion then take them out, fit the "O" ring and lubricate then push them straight in. No need to freeze, I used to push them in with my thumbs
. If they are tight then pull them out and check that you have not rucked the "O" ring. You may need to tap them gently with a hammer handle or piece of hard wood to seat them but normally they push straight in.
