New stop knob & cable
If anyone is looking for a recommendation when replacing the stop knob & cable, I have just bought one from Queensberry Tractor Parts in Lockerbie. It is almost identical to the original, which had just given up the ghost.
It's rare to find a modern replacement part that so closely resembles the original in design and quality. I mention this because I couldn't find this particular cable listed anywhere else.

Quite right, Pat. Some manufacturers of the cheap reproductions forget that the cable has got to push as well as pull.
I was really pleased with the design of the knob. You'd be hard pushed to notice that it isn't an original one. It's really only its newness that gives it away.
