Replacing Injector pump bearings
Replacing Injector pump bearings
My Restoration project is nearing the end , so I was examing a drop of diesel from the base of the injector pump. It was coming from the front bearing housing of the Simms injector pump, so out with the spanners again and remove the Inj pump , I mounted it up on the bench vice and opened up the both bearing ends At the base of the injector pump. So the seal is easy repaired but HOW do I remove the bearings ?will I have to take the shaft out ? And HOW DO I TAKE THE SHAFT OUT ? I know that one of ye guys must have done this before.
Re: Replacing Injector pump bearings
I was just wondering if you were able to get those bearings changed or did you take
it to a shop because I've been thinking about attempting this job myself.

Re: Replacing Injector pump bearings
I have an I&T 'shop' manual here but it doesn't tell you anything, apart from 'don't interfere with the pump unless you know what you're doing' or words to that effect..
I don't know what I'm doing either but I've had the top half of my Ford 7710's pump apart when one of the pistons stuck (probably caused by water somewhere), it wasn't rocket science - as long as you put everything together exactly as it came apart, and don't lose or break any bits
I wouldn't be afraid of trying.

Re: Replacing Injector pump bearings
I have done it to replace the seal.
Keep everything very clean and as you say keep all things for one cil. apart in one box and save it in clean diesel.
Whatever you do don't change anything on the rack.
Problem will be to find replacement bearings I think.

Re: Replacing Injector pump bearings
It is reasonably straight forward. But it is absolutley vital to make sure that the pistons are kept matched to the cylinder they came out of.
Bearings were standard fare from a good bearing supplier.
I am sure i have done it without removing the shaft but cant remember how!!

Re: Replacing Injector pump bearings
Hi guys, i found it absolutely impossible to change the bearings with out removing
The Pistons , springs and the cam followers. This been said I spend hours trying to Wiggle ,push and curse it in to position so much that I damaged my new front seal. It is after all a precise piece of engineering I did not attempt it myself so gave it to a specialist who took it apart for €100, Who Then told me it was in very poor condition and would cost a lot to put right , so I cut my losses and bought a very good one on done deal .ie and it works a dream. This is what I should have done from the start.
Ps
I've just showed my son how to drive the major, and he loved teddering the hay crop this year.so it's all worth it in the end
