Someone is asking me to date a New Major. He say's his dad bought the tractor new in 1952, but the engine is a MKII and casting codes give april 1957.
The engine number is S891709. So t looks a replacement engine.
Can anybody tell us what year that engine might be?

Looks like a 1973 2701 Series engine Henk. The injection pump should be fitted to the back of the timing cover and the injector seals should be much bigger than the Major. These were the only engines to get up to those numbers so has he read it wrongly?

He send my a lot of picture and one of them is the engine number. The engine certainly looks like a MKII.
The 8 looks more like a sandclock shape figure so that could mean the number is 91709
