Hi Pascale

Thanks very much. The tractor is back together again now. I rebuilt the engine at the same time and I have just subsoiled a 5 acre field to bed it in. Pulled like a train! These tractors are so well built, aren't they?

Best wishes

Adrian

Hi there,i see on some of the images you have had the gearbox out,i have had nothin to do with these gearboxes before and was just wondering is there some gears you can change or swap around to get a higher road speed, mine is a power major and does about 25mph,just wondering if there was a way to get in to the 30mph area. Many thanks :D

Hi Mstainton,

Believe me, I have thought about many solutions to speed up my tractor as well. I know it's not a racing machine, but living in a village
next to Amsterdam, all festivals are quite far away for me. I almost never take any trailers with me, so braking power isn't that much of an issue,
when you look far ahead on the road.

I have thought of doing something with the gearbox, but it seems not so simple to me. And fabricating new gears would be quite expensive.
I have also thought of bigger tyres, but the effect is very limited: I know a guy who has 18.4x38 tyres (about 1.75m high  ) on his SuperMajor,
and drives "only" 40 km/h (about 27 mph) at 2300 rpm. Since the tyres are pretty expensive, I believe the effect is too small.
Mine drives 30 km/h (about 20 mph) according to my navigation system at 2200 rpm.
I wonder how you manage to get 25 mph with your Powermajor.

I guess we should buy a Ford 5000 and built in an 4000 crown and pignon wheel: that gives a road speed of 55 km/h (about 37 mph).
Best regards,
Pascal

I too have the same bearing problems with my Major's gearbox. The large roller bearing sitting at the back of the housing looked to be fine, until I withdrew the shaft and the rollers slipped to the bottom of the race  . On first inspection they were evenly spaced!
Does anyone have any idea where to obtain both the roller bearings in the gearbox?
Thank you, in advance.

Hi Adrian, I don't think so. If you take a look at Pascal's photos on page 2 he has identified 'bearing 1' and 'bearing 2'. I think you posted a picture previously that shows the inner race stuck on the end of the shaft in the gearbox. The bearing above is the one on the other side of the gearbox housing isn't it?
The above photo shows a ball bearing, can this replace the roller bearings I have?
