Hi All.
I have a couple of issues with my Power Major. Maybe I should split this into two posts but I'll try this first.
First, I lost reverse. I've drained the gearbox fluid and will be pulling off the inspection plate to look inside but wondered if there was anyone who has had this issue before. Forward gears work great. I saw some posts indicating that it could be something to do with the reverse push rod and such.
Second, my PTO locked up. I was running a power tiller in some good soil and the engine stalled. I have the raised PTO box and I took it out of gear and also the front lever but when I lift the clutch (Live PTO) it stalls. Any thoughts on where I should look first. My manual is pretty basic so I'll see if I can find some of the links for manuals I see folks refer to in other posts.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Phil

Just to make sure ... because on occasion I have had a brain cramp in this arena ... you did engage the both front PTO lever and the raised PTO box before letting the clutch out? If either one is disengaged the PTO will not work.

Sounds like something has failed in the gearbox.
Have you checked the oil levels in the gearbox and rear axle housing?
Best, Adrian.

Re: Power Major PTO locked up and lost reverse
Thanks for the reply whirly. My problem is not that the pto won't turn it is that when I let out the clutch it stalls the tractor.
So I took my gear box cover off and look what I found

It seems the gear (not sure which one but assume it's responsible for reverse) has come off the shaft.
Here is a look at the bushing and the gear

And here's one for the end of the shaft

So that explains the loss of reverse, I would think. Does anyone know the what holds the gear and bushing on?
Also I found this in the PTO Gear Engage box (not sure if that's the name but I'll post the pick). Thinking that nut may have stopped the PTO from wanting to turn and was the source of stalling my engine. Maybe caught in the teeth of the gears. Or so I desperately hope.
I'd love some thoughts.

In this link
http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... hp?p=13024
First picture second page you can see the parts.
You will need to split the tractor and remove the gearbox to get to the parts.
The nut was used to keep the reverse idler gear in place there should also be a bolt and washer to go along with it
You will find it when you take here apart.
Also wise to check al the bearings and replace al gaskets and shaft oil seals.
You will need to pull out the pto shaft to get the pto gear housingout from underneath. That needs to go becouse youll otherwise wont be able to get the gearbox out
Good luck and all the best
Ronald

Thanks for the help Ronald.
Do you think I'll be able to find the bushing that looks pretty beat up?

I dont know were to find it
I can only find the idler gear for the type with transision brake.
http://histoparts.com/nl/webshop/trekke ... major.html
First you need to measure the shaft to see if its not to mutch worn down.
Take the gear and gearbox with shaft to a local macine shop and have one made out of bronze.
But maybe somebody else on the forum knows were to get the bushing.
Good luck

Reference to your pto problem.my cousin had same problem about a month ago engine stalled when u let clutch up if you pull pto shaft out then drop pto housing from gearbox I suspect the bearings will be sheared off housing. If so you'll need a new housing or know a good welder.
