FSM Generator/Dynamo - Lucas Equivalent?
Is a 1963 FSM (not NP) fitted with a Lucas generator and if so, is it a Type C40 or will a C40 do the job? Looks like the original on mine may need to be replaced and I'm a bit wary of some of the unbranded units offered as 'equivalents'.

Davie has a C40A, I suspect that's what all 62-64 Fordson's had. Make sure it's sealed (doesn't have lots of holes in the end plates), as dust would be very nasty. I recommend you try and find one with as similar stampings as possible.
Look in your current one first though, as you might only need brushes.

Thanks, Sandy. Seems I mis-typed the year, which should have been 1961, not 1963, but I dare say your comments still apply. Cheers - Bob

Not quite, before 1962 the dynamo was a sealed C39 variant. C39's have screw-in connectors, C40's have spade terminals. Remember D is the thick wire (and F the thin one).

Thanks, Sandy. Checked it out, dead as the proverbial dodo. Replacement on its way from Anglo Agriparts. Spade terminals, but in the right place.
