Hello all,

First, this board is a great resource, thank you all for the information I have read so far.

I am not sure if I have a Ford 5000/Super Major/or Power major.

That is not making sense is the serial number on the engine block. The number is on the right side, near cylinder 1.

08C 949215

According to everything i have read, if it was a super major, it would have a letter after it and since it starts with a 94, it should be 8D.

I am also tearing this down. The engine in it was bad rods and bearings. I am stuck on a few things.

There is a Pin that holds the front end to the bottom of the engine. I pulled out the cotter pin that held this in place, but can not get the pin to budge. Any ideas?

I have also split the transmission from the rear end, but can not get it to full come apart. It looks like the main shaft is holding it together. How can i take this apart? I have included a photo of each issue.

We have a wonderful system on this board that helps us to see the future. If you look back a few posts you will see I have already answered your questions before you asked them!!

Yes you do have a Super. Power Majors finished at the end of 1960.

Your pin problem could be because there is a step worn in the pin. The other way would be to remove the bolts on the front axle and get that out of the way first. Do not damage the sump if you can help it.

Welcome to the board. I can't give much advice about the back end of your tractor but I have learned a few things about removing the pin that holds the triangle on. As Brian says it will more than likely have a dirty big groove worn in the middle. My trick is to get the load off the front end and use a great big pair of vice grips to turn the pin around. Lots of penetrating oil and eventualy you will find a sweet spot where things line up and you will be able to start pulling the pin out. Don't worry about how much you mark up the pin with the vice grips, it will be stuffed anyway. if worse comes to worse just cut through the pin with a hack saw and drill the remains out. The pin is easy to replace, the sump and triangle are not.

Thanks for the tip. That is what i figured to get the front end off. I am still puzzled by the back end though.
