I hope to pull my hydraulic pump out of my 1959 power major soon and see if I can replace all seals and o rings. I printed out a parts list from new holland but when I went to order from local dealer almost all are sold in packages of 10 which I don't need and he doesn't need and of course makes the price very high for one o ring. I have looked at Agriline and did not see any rebuild kits for pump. Does anyone know if there are any kits for rebuilding pump out there to buy?

All the O-rings for my super major were there, except one suitable for the pressure pipe where it goes into the hydraulic lid. According to some people who have the older majors(new major, power major) there are seals missing for the earlier model pump... Not trying to tell you that it's a bad buy, you will most likely get a number of parts "leftover" but you also just might have to go to a store where they sell seals and the like to get what might be missing...

A tip before you dis-assemble the thing, I didn't have a suitable puller for the pump gear but noticed that two bolts opposite of each-other came in contact with the gear and I drove mine off the shaft by using them and the bench-wise to push the gear off(it's still in one piece but the loud bang when it came loose almost gave me a heart attack!), and a second tip... The drive shaft seal must have the lip(the part with the spring) facing outwards, it's there to keep the pump from sucking air in, I almost put it on the wrong way before my brain kicked in

Thanks Foxen. I have to drive to another town in the morning to pick up two o rings,part #272142, old # was 87036. Now I'm down to needing o rings/seals part # 116517 and 116518. According to New Holland they are still available but one dealer said I would have to buy 10 of each and another has said no longer in service. I'm guessing the original pump is there and has not been replaced but before I order and pay for 20 o rings I will order once I pull pump out.
As to the pulling of the gear, can anyone tell me if I need a special gear puller or will an ordinary gear puller work? I plan to take the pump and pedestal out of the bottom after removing pto shaft. Thanks to all for advice and would appreciated any tips before I proceed on this project.

You will find the part list.

on page 241 - 260 you will find a conversion between Fordson part numbers and the o-ring size.

You can then go to any seal-ring specialist and buy the o-ring.

On page 255, you will find:
part # 116517 is identical to 1.635" I.D. x .139" thick "O" ring

Thanks for the info on the parts list, now I know the dimensions. Looking at a picture of the pump and all parts it looks as though the two I need are not round o rings. 116517 could be round just being shown in a different shape and 116518 appears to be oblong. Any advice from anyone that has experienced taking their pump apart on a power major.

Hello everyone, hope none of you are being hit by the volcano. I found a parts supplier, www.messicks.com, for the two parts I needed, hope they come through. They are listed by correct new holland part numbers so hopefully that means they will be right. Good luck to all.
