Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some advice please.

Basically i have found a New Performance Super Major in the back of a barn not far from where i live and i have bought it (although i have not collected it yet). The tractor is in fantastic condition and has only 1,990 hours from new and is completely as it left the factory. The paintwork is completely off in places but the tractor is not rusted. It is sitting in the shed with about half an inch of dust on it and is on the same tyres from new (although they are flat and cracked).

Anyway what i need advice on is whether i should keep it in this condition or paint/restore it, it seems like a sin to start painting it as it is so original and i could have bought a rough one for less money if i thought i had to paint it, have u guys any ideas on what i should do????

If its complete I would say leave it that way a tractor in just out off work condition and complete (46 years old) I would love to own one. and ....

Welcome to the board.
I always go for original. Get her out of the shed, give her a good pressure wash to get dirt and oil of. I think you will be surprised. Than take some pictures and put them on this board.
As what you tell me I would let her be as she is.

yes, like henk says, take some pictures of where she is now, then drag her out, wash her off then take some more pics, and you can see what is what!

Monetary wise she is worth far more unpainted.

A 1962 Super in that sort of condition made £12,000.00 + at Cheffins Auction at Sutton nr Cambridge.

A gentle wash rather than a steam clean or high pressure wash to get her clean, then a wipe over with either a diesel/oil mix or, my preference, Waxoil to preserve the finish, then stand back to avoid the rush to purchase.

you'd have to be out of your mind to pay that money for a fordson major lol

Welcome Aboard Matey! I agree with the above posts. If it a nice original, leave it alone. Only repair the parts that need repairing on it to keep it in running and in show worthy condition. I painted my FPM only because the previous owner painted it red and the color was all wrong. Dandy Dave!

Two original NP Supers at auction as reported in the Ford and Fordson Magazine, £4600 and £5300.

Just change all oil and filters. New antifreeze, as the rust inhibitors have lost their effect and Fordson liner seals are very sensitive for plain water and old antifreeze.

To clean rear axle from water contamined oil may need removal of the hydraulic lift. There is also a filter cartridge.
