Badges

Many years ago, when I first got Henrietta, her badges were in a poor state. The chrome coating had lifted and broken up revealing the brass underneath.

Yes, the original badges were chromed brass, just like the radiator grills and header tank of a Rolls Royce :D

Way back then, I had no money, (some things do not change over the years  ) so I painted them orange to keep the weather out. This paint has lasted since 1976.

The other day, whilst looking around Halfords, I saw a tin of spray chrome enamel and I thought that it might be time to try it on the badges. I took them off and cleaned the paint off back to the brass, I then sprayed them.

I do not think they have come up too bad, there is a slight bit of corrosion on one that has shown through but I am quite impressed.

I will try it on some headlamp reflectors and report back.

Wish I had had this when I was 30 years younger! I would have done the exhaust and manifold!

They look nice, Brian.

All of the chrome paint that I've used looks like that, at first, but looses its shine eventually. I think that a clear coat over the chrome would make it stay shiny, but I haven't tried it yet.

I've got both my Super Major badges which have fallen off the bonnet. I've tried super glue and other glues but they fell off again!
I dont want to drill through them, so how can I keep them on.

Fenhayman, you might have to try double sided tape instead of glue for badges.I used some on my "Quattro" badge on my Mitsubishi L200 nearly 20 years ago and its never come off.

Looks great Brian. Are all badges made of brass? I guess I need to get out and take these off:Image
