Horn...

Post by Dandy Dave »

Did the Major, and Dexta both use the same horn? I picked a horn off of a Dexta in a salvage yard last week. I haven't tried to see if it would blow yet, but wonered if they were the same. I'll clean it up later and see if it say's "Clear Hooters" on it anywhere. Dandy Dave!

Because there was no mention of John Deere, M-F, or orange grills. :rulez:

:) ... :D ..... ..... But no one has answered my Question. Is the horn and bracket the same on a Diesel Dexta, as it is on a Major? The Dexta horn was mounted on a forward bolt that holds the steering box. The dexta had a horn button in the dash that is just like the Major horn button. Looks original mates. I still have not had a chance to clean it up and see if it is Horney...ah...er.. I mean, blows or not.... er ahhh, Well then gov'ner... toots like a Clear Hooters should. Dandy Dave!

I cleaned it up and it works. It is in original Fordson Blue but it is slightly smaller than the one that I aquired for the Major a while ago. It also does not say "Clear Hooters" on it anywhere. It only has a number 71 stamped on it. It also had two wires with pins like the Fordsons had but when I took the screws out to replace the wires, the nuts fell inside of it. To get it back together I had to grind off six aluminum rivets and split the horn in half. Clearly the wires were put on at assembly of the unit and could not be taken off. I would need to go back and look, but the tractor could have been a Super Dexta in very ruff condition. I put the horn back together with 8-32 screws and nuts. Now I wonder if it was original, or a replacment? Also had a small tested sticker on it that washed away. Which brings around the question. Did all Fordsons through the whole line use a Clear Hooters horn. Or was it droped for a different horn at some time in later years with the Super series? Or was it a dealer add on, or replacement. I got it in a deal with an original Power Major seat and brackets which included the seat latch that was missing on my tractor. Dandy Dave!

i had to solder new wires on to my dexta's horn. started to take it apart from the front but one screw in the back will take the whole unit apart if i remember correctly. the horn was off a 1960 dexta and didnt say clear hooters.

If that is true, then is there a third type or horn between the models and years? The one I have off of the Dexta could only be taken apart by removing the rivets as they held the sound plate which was in the way. Interesting, With production supply, and demand, I suppose it could have been possible to have different suppliers in later years. Tis a mystery. Dandy Dave!

I found this on the web for Clear Hooters horns. It looks like they were producing horns well into the 1960's. Dandy Dave!
