My first Tractor..

Hello all
First time poster, and tractor owner!
I've just picked up what I think is a 1954 New Major Mark I? The plate near the battery says 1280851. The engine block says A29V but the front axle is stamped with 28A4, and E27N 3010B - attached with a bolt that is not the correct size.
It leaks oil, and diesel from the fuel tap (is that easy to repair?). The generator no longer charges and the three point linkage won't stay up.. and there are plenty of pins with wire holding them in! but, it runs well.
I'm looking to use it to slash my paddocks so I'm hoping to make it a working tractor.
I'm not sure if I have added the photo correctly...
Regards, Jim

Nice tractor Jim, and welcome to the board.
Your right it needs a bit of attention.
The fuel tap can be removed. Mostly its worn. You can buy a new one easily. I think the oil is not from the fuel tap but from the steering house. The linkage pin are easy to find. Problem will be the worn out holes.
The generator can be a lot of things. You have to follow the whole circuit to find out what’s wrong.
The linkage problem could be located at the part under the seat in front of the rear end cover. There are topics about all subjects.
Use the search option.
Keep us posted.

Hi Jimmy,
Could you get a picture looking at the lift please. This could be a simple job but I just want to be sure of what you have.

Welcome Jimmy, you have found a great site for Fordsons. Good luck on getting yours up and running.

Thanks for the replies
I'll post a photo of the linkage after I give the tractor a pressure clean (once it stops raining!).
This is a great site and it makes me feel like I bought the right old tractor!
Cheers, Jim

Right Jimmy, you have one of the best. I bought my Power Major 25 years ago and was told it was one of the best. I'm not a mechanic and with this site have been able to keep her running.

Here's a pic of the linkage that won't stay up.

blimey you have a raised pto! does the linkage actually go up? and how long does it stay up for? because the linkage on mine goes down over night if its got nothing on it, but if theres something heavy on it, it stays there!
definetly looks like a good old machine though

Looks like the back end of my Power Major. Only difference is mine has remote hydraulics. Dandy Dave!
