Brake Pedal Ware

he out side brake pedal on my major has a lot of ware in it i can move it a lot does that mean the pedal its self is wore or the shaft? the inside pedal is fine

Probably needs adjustment or the pads/shoes could be worn out.

its nothign to do with the pads or shoes the play is where the pedal go's on to the brake shaft as if the shaft was worn down or the hole for the shaft to go through was worn

The Brake pedal that is free on the shaft has a bushing in it as does the clutch pedal that is on the other end of the shaft so they will be worn and probably the shaft is too The pedal that is tight is fixed to the shaft to transmit the left pedal of the tractor over to the left side brake mechanism :) .
Do you have oil leaking around the shaft where it comes through the transmission :?: . If you do there are seals on either end of that. It is common for the seal to split with age and also wear grooves in the shaft as well :wink: .
begins to sound like you are going to need real deep pockets of money on this old girl . Good luck

No oil leaks so do i need a new shaft bushing or pedal which i cant see been got

as for money all i want is to have the tractor going its not for show or anything

Ok Thats good news on the oil leaks. I guess you will have to take her apart and see exactly what is worn and how much. You can change the bushes in the pedals. If they are the right ones agriline have them.
The shaft however may have extensive wear , where the bushings sit as they are not greased often and the bushings cut into the shaft.
As far as I know you have to build up the shaft with weld and machine it. unless you can find a good used one but this is a common fault with Majors so good luck with that.
I dont believe there is a repro shaft made but a machine shop could scratch build one at a cost,
I have heard of guys that use JB weld or plastic padding type stuff to repair shafts but dont know the sucsess rates.
I guess you could just replace the bushes and see if that makes the play better and if you are happy leave the shaft alone. If you are just working it 90% is a lot cheaper than 100%

Icom 102,

Just get the pedal of and than you can tell what is wrong. Mine was completely worn on all the places. Have to make a new axle and all the bushes and changed the seals.
A new bush is fit in easily. Do not know if you can buy them still.

Thanks guys you can get a new shaft alright i have seen them on ebay thow i am not sure if its for the foot brake or the hand brake
