After seeing all of the lovely old tractors on this site I succumbed and my frecent purchase received a quick coat of paint (mostly by brush, oh the shame of it!).. I used Killrust Ultra Blue for the body, and Killrust Sungold for the wheels. I know, I should have been tackling more pressing problems but sometimes you want to start with the easy, fun bits..
Now, not sure if anyone can help with this. On the back I have a Jarett Slasher. My hydraulic arms drop so the slasher drags along the ground, which I don't think is ideal.
Is is possible to wind up the arms enough so that the slasher sits say an inch above the ground without the hydraulics coming into play?
The slasher is designed to run on the ground. If cutting height adjustment is the problem the skids are adjustable on most Jarrets I have seen.A possible alternative is change the position of the link from the top/hudraulic lifting arm to the bottom linkage arm to a hole that is further back on the bottom linkage arm which will in effect make it sit higher but if it sits above the ground at its lower position you may have to sit it on blocks to attach/remove the slasher.

Hello Jimmy another way to get around it is to let the rear of the slasher hang a bit lower than the front by winding the top link out so it is a bit longer and sits with the front just slightly above the ground when being dragged we did this on both of our tractors and they don't dig in so much .

The top link needs to float and the topper will follow the ground reasonably well. Some toppers have a chain for the top link which pulls tight and lifts the rear end when you need to lift.

I might have solved it; I swapped the hydraulic arms over and this gave me another 40 millimetres in height. I'll find out tomorrow after work..
I might be trying to do the wrong thing though, in raising the slasher/topper slightly off the ground.. It just seemed that when I dragged it today it dug into the ground a bit too much for my liking.
Either way, I need to slash soon to discourage the brown snakes!
