My aftermarket tack and hour meter gave up on my Power Major yesterday at 172 Hours.

Are there better ones out there, Or does every part suppler have the same aftermarket item from the same manufacture? Dandy Dave!

Hi dave, as you probably already know, new parts are not anywhere near original parts quality. I have learnt this the hard way with my major. I now prefer to repair parts than replace them for an easy life. I reckon all new ones are going to be the same, you may have bought a freak faulty one but if I were you, I would look for a decent second hand one, because I bet it would last ten times longer than any new one!
Im waiting for one to come up on ebay for my major, because as far as i know its never had one, also it makes it easier to judge when it needs a service.
I apologise for being negative on new parts, but im afraid it all true.

Funny thing, It started working yesterday for a short time, and then quit again. I suspected that the reproduction quality will be bad all the way around. I had to replace the drive unit, and cable also. Seems to be a lack of lube in the new units. My originals were beyond repair as the glass was broken, and water had poured though it for years. Also, the drive had seized. I did take it apart but it was not salvageable even with the all the machine tools I have at hand.
I cannot mention any vendors names, but Brian has been hinting that some of the repo stuff is trash, and some vendors do not care if they have quality products produced or not. And so, I learns the hard way.

Maybe I should get in the Repro business myself to see that there will be quality in replacments.
