I'm trying to make the Diff Lock work on the Super Major. The pedal is seized solid, a big hammer isn't shifting it.
Now trying to drive out the pins on the Pedal and Collar. Then drive out the shaft with a very big hammer. The problem is that the pins won't shift. Does anybody know if these pins are tapered ? or something other than a plain pin ?

I sympathise as I have exactly the same problem to look forward to when I start on my Super Major.
The pins could be hardened steel roll pins that would need a special drill to drill out. Your local machine shop may be able to help.
Have you tried heating? This may free off the shaft or soaking in a diesel bath for a week or so. PlusGas is a good easing fluid along with you large hammer, rather than WD40.

I had this problem to with an other part. you could use carbide tipped drills. They will get the job done without losing there sharpness i a minute

Thanks Brian, good to have you back. Have tried the Hitting and the Heating. Now trying Soaking.
If that doesn't work, i'll try the Benji method.
Reckon i'll buy one of those miracle drill that you see on Trade Stands. There is one at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, and they drill through old files. Always reckoned that they had heated the files red hot, and left them to cool, which might soften them. We will see.

Want to have some real fun with shaft loosening??? I've retrieved more than one old cable type power shovels out of wet and swampy areas. Lots of stuck and rusty shafts to free. Just a glutten for punisment I am.

Looks like you might need to soak the whole tractor in diesel to get it out of that garage!
