Casting dates engine and gearbox

Post by 1962 model »

Hello all,
I have made a search of casting dates but have not found anything on dates for the new Majors.

I have information for the 1959 Major Power and Super Major dates, but nothing on the early ones 1952 to 1958.

I have a tractor here with a X at the end of the date code so must be earlier than my information.

I had a guy here a couple of days ago and it was his job to go to South Africa for the introduction of Fordsons there in 1952, he trained at Dagenham, he said that here in Australia that the introduction date for Fordson New Majors was about 1953, I have seen a few early ones but have no Idea of their manufacture dates as these had different identification tags.

Any iformation on early dates would be appreciated,

Mike

X makes it 1955.

What ever the serial numbers, date codes are on every cast item and will give a good idea on when she was built and if she is all original. Casting codes go back to the E27N Majors and beyond.

Go to the Wiki from www.fordsontractorpages.nl use the codes "fordsontractorpages" and "dotty" is the password. There is an article on there about dating your Major with pictures of where the casting codes are. There is also data on casting codes on the banner on the home page.
Fordson Tractor Pages, now officially linked to: Fordson Tractor Club of Australia, Ford and Fordson Association and Blue Force.
