Spacers on Fordson Major 13" clutch

Post by Jeff4wd »

HI

Have just split my 1960 Roadless Power Major, initially to change the gearbox because of an awful noise, but have also put a new 13" clutch pressure plate on as well, because the one that was there had been welded and was a bit of a mess. Wondering if anyone knows the thickness of the spacers that are supposed to be on a Fordson Major 13" clutch with 0.52 friction disc, there were none on the old pressure plate, and the clutch pedal was right at the bottom to change gear. Also had a normal thrust bearing set up and not the heavy duty one, but have already got one of those from another gearbox. Would this have been causing the awful grinding/scraping noise that I thought was coming from the gearbox, which incidentally still made a noise when my foot was on the clutch and going downhill!

Also, how far should the release lever plate protrude from the pressure plate when correctly fitted?

Any information would be gratefully received. :?

Thanks
Jeff
