Well they did make petrol majors, but to find an engine out of one is almost impossible! You may be better off finding a bottom end or complete engine, they do turn up on ebay every so often, the last one that was on there, went for £500. And to be honest if you can get one for £500, its not worth messing about with a petrol engine, plus they rev higher and the gearing would be all over the place.

With Majors there is no difference between the Diesel, Petrol and Petrol/Kerosene as far as engine revs are concerned. They are all rated at 1600 rpm and the same gearbox and final drive was used across the range. See the figures in the information above.
So you could fit any engine but it would be a crime to ruin a Super and turn it into something with less power.

I agree brian, i did mean though, that to get a major petrol engine would me almost impossible (because of carb and vap etc), and if he was to fit another type of engine it may well rev a bit higher. I was thinking of the dexta of you-tube which does about 40mph

which had i think some sort of petrol v6 in it!
But it definetly would be a shame to ruin a super when their engines are re-buildable and available second hand.....sorry for any confusion
