Hello to all Blue fans, I just bought my Dad a 1955 New Major Diesel. He has been ill and a little down. He had a 57 when he was a young man, I can just barely remember that tractor, I must have been 4or5 years old. The 55 is in pretty good shape. There is no battery in it when we picked it up, just gave her a little tug and she fired right up. It looks like, from reading older posts that it may be a positive ground (earth) system. I just wanted to ask you experts before I put a new battery in it. Dad couldn't remember, and I just wanted to be sure. Were going to put her back to new condition. Thanks all in advance. This is a great site.

Congrads on your new toy! Yes you are correct the Majors had a positive ground, assuming it still has the original charging system, (a generator not an alternator).

Thanks for the reply,Bearcreek, I see that the 55 has an alternator on it and not the gen. This being, is the system most likely negitive ground now? The key switch and other electrical items are missing. The previous owner was roll starting it, so I will be starting from scratch on the electrical system.

Yup, it will be a negative ground now.
All the parts needed to restore it back to original are avalible from several vendors. Where are you located?

Cambridge Ohio. I have purchased headlamps, muffler, I even bought the big belt drive assy. for the side, all from e-bay. If you can recomend a supplier that would be great. I think it will be a fun project. The draw bar was missing so I'm looking for one of those.
