just joined the site so thanks for having me,have worked with tractors extracting timber, starting with fordson major tractors and then county tractors in the eighties, the majors used were really rough and made up of allsorts of bits but capable of the job before county tractors became afordable, the four wheel drive county made the majors redundant god knows where the majors went, now years later still with fond memories of time spent on fordson majors i have bought another,it is the first i have had with a difflock it also has a cab and loader fitted, having looked on your forum i see if the engine number starts with s it is a replacement engine,if possible could you date it off these numbers hydraulic top e1addnfo1 clutch housing j6h front axle 18 d8.later on today i will put some photos on ,just need a boughton winch to fit now if anyone knows of one.

Welcome Aboard Matey! :D I'm sure someone will be along shortly to decode the casting dates. Sounds like the base is a Super Major. Often times these are referd to as Fordson ASP's. ASP is for, "All Spare Parts" Dandy Dave!

If you have some pictures from the forest-days please post them!

I have a County 654 equipped with front blade and 4-drum Igland winch :)

Your tractor looks like a July 1962 Super Major from the clutch hosing code, the lift details are just a casting mould number not a casting code, keep looking its there somewhere. :D

S engine numbers mean a replacement engine but there are codes on the cylinder head and the block.

The axle code I think is 1958 if you are sure that is an 8 at the end.

Go to the Wiki on this site, entry code "fordsontractorpages" and "dotty", there is an article on dating your Major that may help further.
