Ive recently bought some of these weights for my '61 SM, and found they are not for my super but for later series tractors. Has anyone ever made a adaptor of some sort to fit the SM tombstone?
I'm just trying to think of ways round to make them work.

I used to have two of these weights on my '61 SuperMajor.

A friend of mine took a solid piece of plate. He made four wholes in the plate, so the plate could be bolted on the thombstone of my Super.
Than he took four big bolts and cut off the head. The welded the rest of the bolts to the plate, at the exact size of the 1000 series weights.
Works great. Your tractor will steer a bit heavier though.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the plate.

Thanks for that, very helpfull. I need plenty of weight on the front as I have a large 3f ransomes on the back. What's the best way of posting photos on here?

I stumbled across a John Deere not far from me with an improvised weight frame on the front to which was attached a set of 3 super major weights, one day I went in and asked if they were willing to sell them to me. The answer was no because they kept the front of the tractor down when hedge cutting. Luckily they were willing to swap them for a set of 1000nd series front weights provided I did the swapping. I duly went down to do the swap expecting aggro with the different stud spacing, but low and behold when I removed the super major weights it would appear the frame had originally been made to fit 100nd series weights and subsequently adapted. This meant I could do the swap with no fuss and it made me wonder if someone had done a similar swap (the other way round) sometime before!
A lot of people think that the super major weights sit on long studs but in fact they bolt together 2 bolts at a time using the square headed wheel weight bolts. The back of the super major weights are recessed on 2 holes to locate the square headed bolts. This set of weights were attached in this way.
1000nd series weights are a lot more commonplace and dont command the premium of the super major and even rarer diesel/power major front weights.

I didn't know the weights were held by two bolts. I thought they used long studs, as you told.

Hi, I dont have any pictures on my computer but I will endeavour to take some tomorrow (if I get over to the "yard") of both major and super major type. I have only got 3 of the early type (and have never come across any others for sale) but have a few more of the super major kind. 1000nd series weights are still "10 a penny" and I have a fair hoard of these, one day they will be my retirement fund!!

What is the main differences between the two types of weights?

The earlier type are much flatter with a very slight taper at either end, the Super major has a different more rounded tombstone and there is more of a taper at either end of the slab weight to match the profile of the tombstone front face. The hole spacing is identical between the two. Super weights wont fit a diesel major unless you pack it away from the tombstone to allow clearance for the taper.
Still haven't had a chance to take some pics of mine but will try to illustrate the difference when I do.

Both have deep recessed holes in rear to allow a wheelweight type square headed bolt to locate and also leave room for the securing nut from the preceding bolt. Weights are rotated with the cut out top/bottom alternately hence 2 starting handle holes are fitted. You may get people telling you that they were only fitted on 4 long studs but I have removed them from tractors which use the 2 and 2 method. Why else do the weights have the cut outs!

Yes somewhere about the same. I just noticed you have a 1000nd series weight with the towing jaw attachment, these are pretty rare and sought after compared to the normal type of 1000nd series weight.
