Hi every one, im new here and there seems to be alot of knowledgeable people here, and glad i found this forum. My question is to how much hydraulic pressure should a 1952 Major have. Do you check pressure at the plug under the right side of the seat or else where? My Major has a second valve for a dual acting remote cylinder but it seems really slow to me, but i have nothing to compare to as this is the only one that i know of around me that has this valve. Maybe i expect to much, great tractor other than that. Thanks to all in advance!

Engine set at around 1200 rpm, Oil warm, Pressure gauge in tapping as you suggest, Raise the lift lever and you should get 2000 to 2200 psi before the unload valve opens.
Speed of operation is related to oil flow, the Major is pretty low at around 3 gal. per minute. There is a filter underneath to clean, it is up above the drawbar and held in by four bolts on the plate. You do need to drain all the oil out of the rear axle to remove and clean it. Also be prepared for a well lubricated armpit!
Oil capacity 9 gallons.

Thanks for the info, you are right about it being flow, i should have thought of that. i might still check pressure for curiosity sake, at 3 gallon im probably ok. I really like these old majors and hope to find a power or super major next but here in Illinois they dont come along for sale very often. Great forum here, ive learned alot reading through. Thank again!
