major gears and diffs

Hi there,i have a industrial power major with a 6cyl ford engine in it,i was just wondering would a New performance super major backend with the lower ratio diff make any difference to the road speed of the tractor.Thanks

Are you going to put the whole back end on as there will be differences in brakes and you will have a dif lock? There are two speeds, 4.4 and 3.3, the 4.4 being the slower speed. The number is marked on the front of the hydraulic lift/axle. The 4.4 speed is around 12/14 mph top.

You could remove the crown wheel ring gear and pinion and put it in yout tractor.

we have a npsm that does about 16mph but has no number on the top of casting,is there another way to check the diff eg number of teeth on crown and pinion.P.S what ratio is the power major diff,would it make any difference if i put a 3.3 ratio npsm backend in the power major.

3.3 would be the same as a Power Major, the 4.4 was slower to make better use of PTO driven equipment as it gave slower speeds at 540 rpm in the "work" range.
