Need Parts Sources

Post by Mermilliod »

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 1953 Fordson Major Diesel.

I'll be needing parts soon as I try to get it running. I live in Portland, Oregon, USA and would like to know who you may recomend for parts?

Websites are good but a knowledgable parts guy on the phone would be great. Right now I will be in need of ignition, electrical, and basic maintenance parts.Since I do not know anything about this rig yet, a few good sources may help me avoid buying the wrong parts.

Thanks,
Jeffrey

Welcome aboard

I am assuming that you have already found a copy of the Service, Parts and Operator's manuals. If not that is the first place to start your education. I too am a newbie to the Fordson marque and that is where I started. Finding this forum is the second phase of education. There is a wiki and an archive of old posts that is a wealth of information both technical and common sense.

I started by going through the tractor and finding the things I needed to fix/replace. The things I had but couldn't identify in the parts manual were posted here and the replies were right on the money ... no BS.

To answer your specific question ... There are 2 purveyors of new parts in the great NorthWet - Yesterday's Tractor Co in Port Townsend up on the Olympic peninsula and DW’s Motor Machine in Grandview WA. Neither have a large stock of parts and deal in multiple brands. I have dealt with both and am very satisfied. That being said, you won't save anything in shipping because they don't stock many parts and they drop ship from the vendor. However, they are good folks and can get you many reproduction parts.

PS - Your" Knowledgeable Parts Guys" are right here :!:

You might try Fix That Ford, they seem to be fairly reasonable on parts. i cant find there number at the moment but i talked to them and they seem to be fairly nowledgeble on the fordsons. I havent ordered from them yet but plan to soon. Just google - Fix That Ford and it should come up. If i remember right they are in Michigan.

Welcome to the board, Jeffery.

I get my parts from http://www.bare-co.com and http://www.waltstractors.com

I've also had good luck with Yesterday's Tractors.

Its not very likely that you will find a parts man that you can talk to on the phone that will know anything about our old Fordsons. Its better if you know what you need before you order your parts. There are a lot of people on this board that can help you with that.
