I have a small leak on the corner on my diesel tank where the bolt fixes onto the mounting. Does anyone know a quick way of fixing it. Thanks Streve

When I restored my KFD Major, I cleaned out the inside of the tank with old bolts shaken around with some petrol to clean out any rust & debris.
Then blew it out with compressed air and left it to dry for a few days.
Used POR51 chemical sealer. Expensive but seals the tank 100% guaranteed.
See adverts in T&M or try suppliers like AgriLine or Dunlop Spares or your local motor factors.
I also did my oil bath aircleaner bowl as well.

Hi
I'm restoring a Power Major.
On my fuel tank the soldered seams which seal the thread brackets to the tank were cracked.
So I heated it with a blowtorch and removed the old soldering tin.
Then I cleaned it with a wire brush and soldered it new with a flux filled soft solder.
It worked really good.
But you have to demount the tank and you must clean it from any fuel.
Sorry, I don't speak English very well.

Hi
I agree that por 15 is great stuff, but make sure you seal off the leak-back pipe in the tank

It will block up the pipe very easy

Ye I sure do

Once that por-15 goes off and sets, it's like concrete

But it does a great job of sealing old rusty tanks as long as you follow the instructions correctly

Hi guys,
I had a leak in the tank of my Super Major too. It's been soldered.
I think the leak had 2 reasons: bad rubbers under the tank and the bolts were tightened to much.
I have bought new rubbers at the NH-dealer.
How much will I have to tighten the 4 bolts? I guess it's a good idea to add some spring washers?

Hello Pascal,
You should tighten the bolts good, otherwise they will rattle loose, and when they are loose the vibratrions an the rattling will cause the solder to crack and the steel sheet wears.
Just tighten them up, to a "usual" strengt for the bolt. They are 7/16 I thougth, so you are allowed to tighten them. Otherwise they would have chosen smaller diameter.
Spring washer or lock washer will not do any harm.
Best regards
Emiel
