i hear so talk about the use of hylomar. is it a good product to use on liner seals, and under liner top lip? how does it compare to say ultra blue or black silicone? and where or whom sells it? thank-you

Blue hylomar is pretty good stuff (used by the Army repair organisation), although I would only use it for that extra security with paper, or cork gaskets. Wellseal can also do the job, although it appears to be too "thin" for me and is what we used when old repair manuals called for shellac to be applied to seals, gaskets etc and was used by Rolls Royce for some of their silk thread sealing faces.

The stuff I use for liner seals etc, around core plugs before securing (bashing) them and also a light smear around any coolant ports on a head gasket is Rodaseal (available from any decent motor factors in squeezable tubes about 5 in long). It is a white silcone (smelling) sealer that "goes off" in about 10-15 mins. Don't layer it on too thick, as excess bits can end up plugging something in your cooling system.

I am sure someone will have an alternative view, but I have used it with great success for many years.

I use silicone around the sealing rings when I install any wet sleeves in any motor. We do not have that brand here in the states but looking at this link,
