crawler back end oil
crawler back end oil
I have been told a pre 1957 major has EP90 back end oil whilst the newer super major has multigrade due to the more advanced hydraulics. I have a 1960 County crawler with no load sensing top link just the old fashioned up and down. Which oil should I use?

Re: crawler back end oil
Hi,
EP90 should not be used in any Fordson back end as it has additives that harm seals and bushes used in them. Early Fordsons used SAE90 that does not have the extreme pressure additives. There is a link at the top of the page that lists the recomended oils for Fordsons. http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl/phpbb ... ?f=2&t=827 If you use the SAE 90 oil you will have trouble with the hydraulics when it is cold.
Regards, Frank.

Real tractors don't need tin work to be beautiful.
