Just finished a couple of hours subsoiling on heavy land. My NP Super loved the work, growling at the stiff spots and chugging on through. When I hopped off and put my hand on the gearbox housing it was very warm. The box is filled with Morris AG90. Is the high temp of the oil a natural result of its viscosity? What I mean is, is the power sapped from the engine to stir the oil around given out in heat?
I'd be grateful for an explanation of the physics of the situation.
Thanks
Adrian
Gearbox temperature
Re: Gearbox temperature
Don't worry Adrian! It's normal that the gearbox of NSM is hot after hard work.

Re: Gearbox temperature
Using 90 grade oil in the gearbox could be contributing to the buildup of temp. Check the oil specs on this board and I think Fordson recommended the use of the same oil used in the engine. Maybe using the lighter oil will help.

Re: Gearbox temperature
You are right Bob! Oil grade is very important, but a hot gearbox is more feature of FM.
