new owner- 1962 super major - hydraulics questions????

Post by bwiley »

Hello everyone,
I am new owner of a 1962 super major. I came across this site while looking for information on my new project.
I have been thru all 29 pages trying to find a solution to my problem.
My hydraulics raise very well, but lower very slowly. Even with weight on it still just bleeds off. I read that it could be the unload valve or control valve, but all the hydraulic controls have been replaced with a different control block.
Can anyone help me identify what has been placed on my tractor???
Do I still need to lift the top off to fix my problem?
thanks a ton,
ben
I hope these photos work..

I’m assuming you issue is with the DAR valve, (Dual Action Remote) and not the three point lift. There should be a “needle valve” to adjust the flow, maybe by turning the shaft sticking out to the left, sometimes it’s just a short shaft with a roll pin through it as a handle and under the front of the valve. You may also have the wrong valve, this one looks to be off a 1000 series. They bolt on but the ports may not be correct or line up at all. I have been wanting to get one to make it work for myself but just haven’t got around to doing it yet.

this is the DAR that I have on my 63 Major

at first my 3 point hydraulics were not working at all, took the top plate off and freed up the unload valve and the spool valve, after reassembling, it was working properly, I use it in the position control, but at that, it drops properly and quickly.

Nope, I'm still here, just not much of a poster, I have all the parts sitting at home, but no time to replace it right now. I have to do it soon though, with all the snow that we have had already, I have put it into good use, and you can see the oil dripping on the snow. Also have to replace all the oil in the rear end, it's quite milky, and froze up on me once already.
