Power Major Hydraulic Outlets

Brian and Oscar,

First I wanna say. the forum looks great with the new updates.

I finally got my first implement that runs off of the tractors hydraulics. I noticed that I have two outlets with quick attach couplers and one outlet that is just a open hose coming out of my hydraulic chest. I talked to a few guys in my tractor club and they said they never heard of a tractor having a odd number of outlets. They said possibly the one without the quick attach end is a breather line.

Here are a couple pictures of the hydraulic chest:

The outlet at the top with the hydraulic hose attached is the open hose.

So I was wanting to know if this is setup correctly ? Should I plug the hose that open to stop debris from getting up inside of the hose.

Also, the handle will not stay over to the right to allow the hydraulics to run. I have to hold the handle down in order to engage the pump all of the time. Once the implement is hooked up with this "lock" the handle ??

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

The system you have is not a normal one here in Europe, however, you have two pressure outlets and the third one will be the return. If you are not using this then it will need to be plugged to avoid dirt getting into the rear axle/hydraulic oil.

ScottL, I have the same hyd. setup on my power major as you do. I was wandering if you might know where to get the O-rings for it. I have mine all tore apart and need the new O-rings. If you can help let me know. Thanks, Craig

On my Power Major, both of the lines on the valve are utilized and the lower is plugged. I use my outlets on a double acting cylinder that angles a york rake and it works very well. Look back at the photos on, "The Fordson power Major and More" Thread on this site. Sorry that it takes a while to load. I haven't had time to try and change it. It is my guess that maybe the previous owner was using yours on a single acting cylinder? Maybe it flows back easier in the lower port?

Orings should be availible at a hydraulic repair shop. Dandy Dave!

Has either one of you guys had you hyd. valve assembly apart. Mine was not working when I got the tractor so I took it apart. I have replaced the O-rings and a new gasket between the 3 point valve and hyd. valve. I did not see any remnants of old gasket material between the plunger blocks on the hyd. valve. Do you guys know what goes in there? My fordson manual does not show the valve in the book. Can you help please.
