I t possible to replace a shim without dismanteling the complete rear axle by cutting it open on the upper side and seal it in with wellseal or any other motor sealant?
Who has an idea where to the 0.005 shim material?
Best regards

Hello Dietmar,
I don't understand where you would like to fit the shim, but in my opinion it is quite easy to take the lift of, and gives a lot of working space.
0,05 mm shim can be made from brass lamella or something like that.
Sealant is very usefull in my opionion to seal, but not use to much, because of the extra thickness, ruining your settings.

Thank you Brian, I will - if I find the material - fit the shim with the cut on the upper side and seal the cut.
Dear Emiel!
The shim is between the rear axle housing and the bull pinion housing. It is used to balance the dif between the two pinions, as I understand it. In my case the inner and outer seals in the brake ext. housing had not failed and the oil was leaking out of the shim area which is not touched normaly.Without taking apart the rear this bull pinion housing can not be removed. But it can be slided out 3-5 mm, this is where I found the damaged shim. Now I like to make a shim and put it in this gap, sealing the joint. The material is 0.005"

Hello Dietmar
Now I understand your problem. We did the same trick on our E27N without problems. Good luck with the operation.
