Hand Brake

I have had the transmission out to do a few jobs. One of which was to replace hanbrake that was virtually scrap. trouble is it wasnt physically possible to get the seven fixed plates installed, i couls only manage 5 plates so there was still a gap between plates when it was assembled. How much gap did you have when yours was up? Also is it possible for you to push yours along the ground by hand or do you have some resistance through the box?

James, I’m thinking you have the assembly incorrect, one of the fixed plates needs to be installed before the idler gear, as per the instructions in the left column of the attachment. Warped plates would most likely cause the same issue, I installed all new ones in my 54.

nut

Plates are 2mm thick??

I don't recall any force required to assemble, they went in easily.

lookling at that picture your spring is far more compressed than mine which was a new replacement. that would explain why i couldnt get as many plates
