Hydraulic Pump Storage?

Hello to everyone, hope all is well. I posted on the parts swap forum about a hydraulic pump I was looking at and no one replied so thought I would ask this on this forum because the pump is out of a New Major. I bought the pump for $85.00 US to have as a spare and it appears to be good, it did pump oil although this was by me pouring oil into it and turning by hand, not under preasure. Any suggestions on testing it another way without putting it in the tractor. I'm putting it up in storage in a box for future use if needed and wanting suggestions on proper way to store it. Should I wrap in plastic and then into the box or just plug oil holes and store away? Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Henk, that sounds like the way to go. I bought this pump because I felt the price was reasonable, I had cracked one in my Power Major a few years back and at that time best price I could find was several hundred dollars higher so now have a spare if needed. I was told it came out of a mid 50's Major and it is exact to the one I cracked except it does not have the EnFo logo on it so maybe it was an aftermarket pump.
Again thanks for the advice.
