Oil pressure question

Post by Nick »

My oil pressure when cold is about 45psi when idling, and usually drops a bit when hot, but when i rev the engine the pressure goes down ever so slightly? Which is confusing me, because should it not go up a bit. Bearing in mind when it is hot the oil pressure is about 30psi.

Could this be the relief spring on the oil pump or more likely a faulty guage?

Nick my 54 does the same thing, I’m assuming it’s from the old school pressure relief valve up front.

Ah well mines a 54 too pat, i guess i will leave it as it is for a bit and keep an eye on it. I am going to change the oil soon anyway, at the moment ive just got normal 10w40 multigrade in it because at the time i didnt realise. I may get hole of some 30w mineral oil and see if that makes any difference to the guage.
