Difference between Major Diesel, Power Major and Super Major

Post by county654 »

Hi ,
even so I got infected by the "Blue Virus" there are some questions.
I am planning to add a Major to my County, since everybody on this board seems to own a second, third,.......tractor 8)

In my neighbourhood there is a 1959 Power Major for sale . Only 4500 hors on the clock and very original.

What are the differences between this model and the Diesel or the Super besides horsepower?
Regards Matthias

With County, you can ;-)

1961 County Super 4 drainagemachine
1963 Super Major
1964 NP Super Major 4x4

hiya county,
basicly supers had upgraded hydraulics, disc brakes and also diff lock.
power major had (mostly) live drive, the dash moved to top of fuel tank and had tacho.
in all series/years upgrades were implimented so every year things were improved by slight changes.
these are basicly the major differences but eveyone has a different view

Thanks for the Information.
Espacially the Hydraulik, brake Thing is what I looked for.

The Power Major I checked today has a "Live Drive" badget on the front. The hydrauliks work only with engaded pto. Is that the correct mode?
 It has 4400 hours , the clock works and the Overall shape is fine with just rust on it.
Price including loader is round about 2.000 €

I have to check the piggy bank

Hiya county,
sounds like you scored well.
enjoy the drive home and your purchase.
Forgot to mention probably other major change was headlights went into grill for supers. lol

What is on it? my 1958 power has ACR, power steer and raised PTO, sorting out trans/diff oil transfer problem now.

@ Mark

I dont´t know, what is on and what is missing

I have to check it.

What do you mean by ACR?

@ Adrian

I live Close to Luxemburg and France.
We had a Fordson/ Ford dealer in our village until 1995.

The tractor on our farm was a Dexta when I was born. Majors were very, very rare.

Some Dextas are still in service .

Hiya County,
ACR is auto clutch release (all working including top arm). was popular for ploughing etc so when you hit something hard the clutch was engeged thus preventing breakages. dont use it but it is there. lol

cheers

Hi Adrian,

I am a german farmer.
When I was 18 years old, I had the oportunity to spend half a year in the U.S. in a 4H program. That was a great time, and ever since, I tell young People to spend some time in a foreign country.

Where do you come from?

Hi Matthis

Suffolk on the East coast of England. Which tractors are popular in Germany now? German makes, I'm guessing - there's a good choice. Any modern blue machines? !

A Super will have draft-control hydraulics, so the top-link attachment will look something like this (this one is complete although yours may have bits missing or broken)

Image

..compared to this older model, where the top-link just fits on to the long cast bracket, which is bolted to the back-end with 4 big bolts; and with the casting (including oil filler plug) bolted on above it.
